Police detained Valeri B., a 39-year-old man from Sliven known by the nickname Valkata.[1][2][3] The search was at his flat in the Sunny Beach resort.[4] He had previous convictions and was known to police in Sliven.[5][2] The detention order was for up to 24 hours.[4] He was kept in the arrest facility of the Nesebar district police department.[1][6] A fast-track criminal proceeding was opened against him.[1][2][6][3]

Police found about 3 grams of methamphetamine and about 3 grams of amphetamine in the flat.[1][2] They also seized about 2 grams of dried plant material believed to be cannabis and two hand-rolled cigarettes containing it.[1][2][6][3] The search began at about 08:00 in a flat a few metres from the beach and the Kakao bus stop.[1][2] Officers from the Burgas criminal police and the Nesebar district police carried out the operation.[7] A field test identified the white crystalline substance as methamphetamine, known in Bulgaria as “piko”, and the white powder as amphetamine.[1]

Police did not say whether the drugs were intended for sale or for personal use.[1][2][6] Investigators said they still had to establish where the substances came from and how they were stored.[1][2]
