Sepahijala district police, BSF troops, Tripura State Rifles (TSR) personnel and forest officers cut down ganja, or cannabis, planted on forest land at several places in the district on 30 November 2025.[1] At Amarendranagar in Bishalgarh sub-division, a team led by Inspector Ajit Debbarma, officer-in-charge of Bishramganj police station, destroyed six plots and nearly 12,000 mature plants in deep forest.[1] Most villagers were asleep when the police entered the neighbourhood.[2] The plants were fully mature and the cultivators would have harvested them within a few days.[2] Debbarma put the market value of the Amarendranagar crop at about ₹10 lakh.[2]

In the Sonamura police station area, Inspector Tapas Das led a large-scale destruction operation over forest land at Kamalnagar, Ghatigarh and Dulunga.[1] There, 34 plots were destroyed and about 400,000 mature plants uprooted.[1] The Sonamura operation covered more than 55 acres of government forest land under Dulunga village in Kamalnagar.[3] Police were accompanied by the 49th and 81st battalions of the BSF.[3] Forest department staff and TSR jawans of the 14th battalion also took part.[3] In the Madhupur police station area, Inspector Debajit Chattarjee’s team destroyed six plots and nearly 30,000 plants at Kartailya and Konaban, also in Bishalgarh sub-division.[1]

In total, more than 442,000 mature plants were destroyed, which the district police described as one of the largest one-day cannabis destruction drives in Sepahijala.[1] The district police said such operations would continue as part of its commitment to a drug-free society.[1]
