Dhupguri police achieved notable success in an anti-narcotics drive, destroying a large quantity of ganja plants in a sweeping Wednesday operation based on secret-source information.[1] A large police force took part under Dhupguri station in-charge Anindya Bhattacharya and Daukimari outpost officer-in-charge Ramen Laskar.[1]

Police first raided Purba Daukimari and Madhya Khattimari, where about 70 mature ganja plants illegally grown across several plots were found; the plants were seized and destroyed on the spot.[1] Complaints of secret ganja cultivation in these areas had been reaching the police for a long time, and the operation followed on that basis, officials said.[1]

Sensing the police presence, the landowners and accused fled the area; police began a search for them, stepped up surveillance, and set about identifying the accused and their network links.[1]

The police team then raided Kalar Khas under Jhar Alta 2 gram panchayat, where further evidence of illegal ganja cultivation was found and the plants were likewise cut and burnt on the spot, spreading a stir across the area with the back-to-back operations.[1] Local residents largely welcomed the drive, and police said such operations would continue with no compromise in the anti-narcotics fight.[1]
