Three Senegalese soldiers died and three more were wounded in an accidental explosion during cannabis clearing in the Casamance region on Tuesday, March 17, 2026.[1]
The Armed Forces said the soldiers met their fate while tracking down and neutralising armed individuals, combating cannabis cultivation and securing the population; the explosion occurred early Tuesday during operations to destroy cannabis fields along the border with The Gambia, and the wounded were evacuated for treatment.[1]
The blast came a week into an operation that had already neutralized several members of armed groups engaged in cannabis cultivation, days after one soldier was killed and six wounded in the Kadialock clash.[1]
