Panama’s border service detained two people in an anti-narcotics operation in Playa Muerto, in Darién province.[1] The operation was carried out by antinarcotics units of the First Eastern Brigade of the National Border Service (Senafront), with support from the National Aeronaval Service and in coordination with the Public Ministry.[1] The two people detained and all the evidence collected were placed at the disposal of the competent authorities for investigation and judicial proceedings.[1]
During the intervention officers located 914 rectangular packages wrapped in adhesive tape, which are presumed to contain marijuana.[1] Officers also seized mobile telephones, global positioning system (GPS) devices and a boat fitted with two outboard motors.[1]
The operation was conducted within Plan Firmeza and the Fiestas Patrias and Escudo de Acero operations.[1] Senafront maintains surveillance and interdiction operations along Darién’s coasts to combat drug trafficking and to prevent transnational criminal organisations from using Panamanian territory for their activities.[1]
