The provincial court in Salamanca sentenced a man to three years in prison and a fine of 1,790 euros for a cannabis plantation, after he accepted the facts and the prosecution’s legal description.[1] Prosecutors had first asked for four years and ten months and a fine of 2,580 euros.[1] The court also imposed a three-month fine, at four euros a day, for stealing electricity.[1] Both sides waived an appeal, so the sentence is final.[2]
The case began with the Salamanca drugs unit.[1] On 16 August 2023 officers searched a warehouse on the Peñasolana industrial estate that the man had rented and also used as a home.[1] They seized 460 cannabis plants with a net weight of 18,613.13 grams, valued at 119,496.29 euros, and 7,239.48 grams of leaves, valued at 46,477.46 euros.[1] Salamanca24horas, citing the judgment, adds 30 buds weighing 1,213.9 grams inside that plant total.[2]
The grow ran on 20 lamps, 13 fans, an extractor, a deioniser, a carbon filter and irrigation and lighting controls.[1] A trailer inside the warehouse held the flowering plants, with air conditioning and a water supply, set up so the crop could be moved.[2] A caravan held two precision scales, two hydraulic presses and two heaters.[1] Officers also found crystal MDMA, 32 tablets of MDMA and amphetamine, and traces of cocaine and 2C-B that the court treated as penally irrelevant.[1]
The man had hooked the lights straight to the grid.[1] The judgment put the loss to I-DE Redes Eléctricas Inteligentes, an Iberdrola distributor, at 30,154.69 euros, which he must pay.[1] The drugs are to be destroyed.[2]
