On 12 February 2015, RCMP Olds officers acting on a tip about suspicious activity, with ALERT’s Green Team, dismantled a marihuana grow operation at a rural home in Olds, Alberta.[1][2] Officers found 2,137 plants inside the home and in Quonset huts on the property, valued by ALERT at $2.5 million, the largest Green Team seizure in more than two years.[1][2]

The home had been an authorised medicinal grow site, but the licence’s plant limit had been grossly exceeded.[1] Five people aged 25 to 58, three men and two women, were arrested, though no charges had been laid when the raid was announced on 17 February; officers also seized $40,000 in cash and Alberta health inspectors deemed the home uninhabitable.[1] Two young children were in the home during the search and child services assisted.[1]
