Detectives from Area II Juvenile Aid Section learned that a 17-year-old boy in Child Welfare
Services custody on Oahu was believed to be staying without authorisation at a residence in the
96-9000 block of King Kamehameha Boulevard in Ocean View.[1][2] On Thursday 20 August 2026
Juvenile Aid and Vice West officers executed a search warrant there.[1][2]
As officers approached, police said 37-year-old Dean K. Padamada of Ocean View shouted at the
runaway and a 12-year-old boy to flee; both juveniles were found shortly afterward and the younger
boy was treated for minor scrapes.[1][2] Inside the search uncovered an illegal marijuana grow:
seventy-seven plants and more than six hundred grams of dried and processed marijuana.[1][2]
After consulting prosecutors the same day, police charged Padamada with second-degree custodial
interference, conspiracy, second-degree commercial promotion of marijuana and first-degree
promotion of a detrimental drug, then released him after he posted $18,500 bail.[1][2] The
17-year-old was returned to Honolulu and to his mother through Child Welfare Services.[1][2]
