Customs officers of the Regional Customs Branch I (Chi cục Hải quan khu vực I)
were screening transit baggage at Noi Bai International Airport on 25 October
2026 when they found a black checked suitcase.[1] The suitcase was checked
through on a connecting itinerary and booked on flight VN19, which was due to
leave Noi Bai for Paris Charles de Gaulle at 23:50 that night.[1] The airport
task force identified the passenger, Jesus Sanchez Gomez, as the owner of the
checked bag.[1]
Inside the suitcase were two packages measuring about 40 by 70 cm, holding dried
herb believed to be cannabis and weighing about 25.4 kg in total.[1]
Questioned by the task force, Gomez admitted that he had been paid €4,000 to
carry the goods from Cambodia, through Vietnam, to France.[1]
Customs handed the entire case file, the man and the cannabis to PC04, the drug
crime investigation office of the Hanoi City police, to continue the
investigation.[1]
