An anti-narcotics squad of Mumbra police was on patrol at Harani Vasti, Mumbra, when officers saw a man walking and behaving suspiciously.[1] The officers stopped him before he could run and a search found narcotics on him.[1] Police took 18-year-old Sahil Siraj Shaikh, a resident of Mumbra, into custody and seized 1.384 kg of ganja from him.[1]

Police valued the ganja at ₹28,229.[1] The operation was led by Assistant Police Inspector Dhage, and officers searched him after his answers to their questions seemed inconsistent.[2] A case was registered against Shaikh at Mumbra police station under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, and he was arrested.[1]

The arrest came during a strict campaign against people who sell and use narcotics in the Mumbra police station area, ordered by the Thane city police commissioner.[1] Police described the arrest as part of a sustained effort to curb the distribution and consumption of illicit substances in Mumbra.[2]
