Officers of the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit, working with customs officers, arrested a 30-year-old man arriving at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport on a flight from Dubai.[1] The interception took place at the airport on Monday 2 November at about 14:35.[1] The suspect was detained as part of an investigation into drug importation with aggravating circumstances and a presumption of trafficking.[1]

Authorities estimated the market value of the 10.94 kilos of intercepted cannabis at Rs 16.41 million.[1] During the intervention the authorities found ten heat-sealed black plastic sachets containing cannabis.[1] Investigators also seized a Malaysian passport, three boarding passes and a baggage tag from the case.[1] Among several foreign currencies seized were 355 pounds sterling and 250 United States dollars.[1]

Following the arrest, investigators launched a controlled-delivery operation on the same day.[1] The operation was then interrupted on Tuesday 3 November.[1] The police report gave no reasons for stopping the controlled delivery.[1]
