Department of Narcotics Control officers detained four people in separate anti-drug raids in Dhanbari and Madhupur upazilas of Tangail on 2 November 2026.[1][2] The cannabis pair were Imon Arefin Swakkhar (25) and Mahim Arefin Sourav (27) of Tengri Madhyapara village in Madhupur, held with 10 grams of ganja.[1][2] A mobile court sentenced each of the two to six months of simple imprisonment and a 100-taka fine.[1][2] Sub-Inspector Topu Khan filed the prosecution, and Madhupur Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Executive Magistrate Md Saiful Islam conducted the mobile court that sentenced them.[1]
Officers recovered 10 grams of ganja from the pair, the separately supported cannabis component recorded here.[1] The same operation also seized 19 yaba tablets, one gram of heroin, two mobile phones and 48,490 taka in alleged drug-sale cash from two other accused, which are excluded from the cannabis figures.[1] Those two, Julhas Uddin (49) of Kalipur, Dhanbari and Farukh Haydar (36) of Aushnara, Madhupur, face a regular case at Dhanbari Police Station under the Narcotics Control Act 2018.[1]
The raids were carried out at the accused persons’ own houses in Kalipur and Tengri Madhyapara villages under the supervision of the Tangail district narcotics-control assistant director.[3] A second outlet confirms the separate 10-gram ganja detention and the six-month sentence with a 100-taka fine for each of the two men.[3] The department says anti-drug operations will continue across the district.[1]
