In Kerala’s Kollam district, an Excise enforcement team conducting checks across the coastal belt detained 25-year-old Sufiyan.[1] The youth is identified as a resident of Puliyara at Valathungal in Eravipuram in Kollam.[1]

During the check, the team recovered one kilogram of cannabis, known locally in Kerala as kanjavu or ganja, from his possession.[1] Excise officers said the seized cannabis had been brought into Kerala from another Indian state specifically for retail sale.[1] Preliminary information indicated that his plan was to distribute the stock within the local area by selling it in small quantities.[1]

The coastal-area inspection that led to the detention was conducted by a team working under the leadership of Excise Inspector Sajan.[1] Excise said further legal proceedings against the detained youth were already under way following the seizure and arrest.[1] The agency added that investigators would trace the source of the narcotic drug and examine other possible links connected with its smuggling.[1]
