Acting on confidential information, Tripura Police intercepted a vehicle at the Jherjheri Naka Point in Churaibari, Kadamtala, on the night of 28 October 2026, and searched it after suspecting contraband on board.[1][2] Dharmanagar Sub-Divisional Police Officer Jayanta Karmakar, DCM Suman Das, forensic experts and Kadamtala Police Station personnel joined the search at the spot.[2]
Officials found a specially designed concealed compartment inside the vehicle’s body holding 17 packets of dry cannabis of varying sizes, which were seized in the presence of officials and witnesses.[1][2]
The driver, Kishan Ghosh (29), son of late Kartik Ghosh and a resident of the East Pratapgarh area of Subhashnagar in Agartala, was taken into custody along with the vehicle.[2] During preliminary interrogation he allegedly said the cannabis had been loaded at the Khayerpur bypass area in Agartala and was meant to be smuggled into neighbouring Assam.[2]
Kadamtala Police Station Sub-Inspector Manoj Kumar Pal said the estimated black-market value of the consignment is around half a crore rupees (Rs 50 lakh).[2] Police registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and began investigating the trafficking network, including the source and intended recipients of the consignment.[2]
