Border Guard land patrols in the Al-Aridah sector of Saudi Arabia’s Jazan region
detained five Ethiopian nationals who were accused of smuggling 66 kilograms of
hashish, the directorate said.[1] The five were described as violators of the
kingdom’s border security law.[2] The General Directorate of Border Guards
published the announcement on Friday 30 October 2026.[1]
The Border Guard said it had completed the initial legal procedures in the case
against them and handed the five, with the seized hashish, to the competent
authority to pursue legal action.[2] The case was one of three smuggling
operations the directorate announced in Jazan and Asir that Friday, all
involving Ethiopian nationals.[1]
The Border Guard again urged citizens and residents to report drug smuggling and
trafficking through its 994 hotline or the anti-narcotics directorate’s 995
line, saying all reports are handled in strict confidence.[1]

- The same announcement covered two khat-smuggling cases, 80 kg in Al-Daer and 193 kg in Asir; khat is not cannabis and those cases are left out of this report.
- No names, ages, charges or court outcome for the five were reported.
- No captioned photograph of the seizure was found: the Al-Hadath page shows the Border Guard emblem and the Sobra page's featured image is uncaptioned.
