Police in Jamalpur arrested Israfil, 20, and Sufia Begum, 40, and seized 6.5 kg
of cannabis in an undercover operation in the Rani Ganj brothel area of Jamalpur
municipality.[1][2][3] The operation took place at about 5:35 pm on Thursday 29
October 2026.[1][3] Israfil is the son of Dudu Mia of Pathalia Uttarpara in
Jamalpur Sadar upazila, a sub-district, and Sufia Begum the daughter of Lal Mia
of Malancha in Melandah upazila.[1][3] Police put the market value of the seized
cannabis at about 195,000 taka (1 lakh 95 thousand).[1][3] A case was filed
against both under the Narcotics Control Act.[4][3] They were sent to jail
through court on 30 October.[4][3]
Jamalpur Sadar police said they had acted on a tip-off that cannabis was being
sold in the brothel area.[1] Sub-inspector Asaduzzaman entered the area by
rickshaw posing as a buyer, the officer said.[4][3] A man asked him whether he
wanted ‘product or a woman’, he said.[1] He said he wanted cannabis, paid, and
was handed a packet of it; he then signalled officers already in position, who
detained the man.[1] In the search, officers found 2 kg of cannabis in a blue
polythene bag and 4.5 kg wrapped in poster paper in 740 small packets (puriya)
in a red plastic bucket.[4][3] They also seized a digital scale used for weighing
cannabis and 2,050 taka in cash from drug sales.[4][3]
Officer-in-charge Nazmus Sakib said nobody linked to drugs would be spared and
asked Jamalpur residents to help police with information.[4] Additional
superintendent of police (crime and operations) Yahia Al Mamun said the district
police were taking a hard line against drugs.[1]
The raid took place in a room of house No. 6 in the brothel area.[2]
