Ahead of Indonesia’s 81st independence day, the Aceh provincial office of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) and Nagan Raya district police destroyed about 30,000 cannabis plants on two fields totalling roughly 12 hectares in the mountains of Nagan Raya regency on Saturday and Sunday 15–16 August 2026.[1][2]

Thirty-five officers from BNN Aceh and the local police reached the sites at about 1,800 metres above sea level in Dusun Alue Jring, Desa Blang Meurandeh, Kecamatan Beutong Ateuh Banggalang.[1][2] The agency said the plants were about 1.5 to 3.5 metres tall, spaced about 80 centimetres apart and roughly four months old, ready for harvest.[1][2]

Personnel pulled the plants up by the roots and burned them on site under standard procedures.[1][2] BNN Aceh head Brig. Gen. Pol. Dedy Tabrani led the operation; national BNN chief Commissioner General Suyudi said the destruction was part of the agency’s upstream focus on production sites.[1][2] Neither account reported an arrest.[1][2]
