Railway Protection Force (RPF) officers from Hijli post and the force’s crime intelligence branch in Kharagpur stopped a man carrying ganja at Hijli railway station on 14 May 2026.[1] Officers identified the man as Anil Singh, aged about 33, a resident of Fatehpur district in Uttar Pradesh.[1] The Nandankanan Express had arrived at platform 1 at about 17:30, and they picked him out near the general coach with a blue travel bag.[1] A search of the bag found four packets wrapped in brown cello tape, and the RPF said the ganja weighed about 4 kg 100 g and had a market value of about Rs 2,05,000.[1] Singh told officers he had collected the ganja near Bhubaneswar railway station and was taking it to Fatehpur for illegal sale, and that he had no authority or documents for carrying it.[1]

The search was carried out before a gazetted officer, Jitendra Kumar Singh, after the detained man chose that option under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, India’s drug law.[1] He was arrested at about 00:45 on 15 May under the NDPS Act.[1] A personal search found two mobile phones and SIM cards on him, and his family was told of the arrest.[1] He and the seized articles were then handed to the Government Railway Police (GRP) in Kharagpur.[1] The GRP registered case No. 58/2026 on 15 May under Section 20(b)(ii)(B) of the NDPS Act.[1]
