Chennai Customs’ Air Intelligence Unit intercepted a male passenger arriving from Bangkok on 2 October 2026 after profiling flagged him; he tried to exit through the Green Channel without declaring anything.[1][2] Examination of his checked baggage found 26 transparent airtight packets of dried greenish-brown flowering tops, suspected high-grade hydroponic cannabis, ingeniously concealed inside Thai food packets.[1][2]

The 15.02 kg haul tested positive for ganja with the Narcotic Drug Detection Kit and was valued at about Rs 5.26 crore.[1][2] Customs seized it under the NDPS Act, arrested the passenger and had him remanded to judicial custody; investigation continues.[1][2]
