The Halton Regional Police Service in Ontario concluded Project Icarus, the largest drug seizure in the force’s history, ending in 12 arrests and 44 charges.[1][2] The investigation began with a single suspect in October 2020 and grew into a joint operation with Criminal Intelligence Service Ontario, Peel Regional Police and the Canada Border Services Agency, executing 130 judicial warrants across the Greater Toronto Area.[1][2]

Police seized more than 1,000 kg of cannabis in bulk, edible and resin forms, alongside cocaine, ecstasy and opioids including fentanyl.[1] Officers also recovered two Glock handguns, a shotgun with 1,100 rounds of ammunition, more than $100,000 in cash, jewellery and three vehicles.[1] The operation disrupted a cocaine-processing site and illegal cannabis-processing facilities.[1]

Charges

Twelve people from Ontario were charged, mostly with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.[1] A full breakdown of the charges was published on the police service’s website.[1]
