Nine people were arrested in a raid on a ganja-selling spot at a market centre near the NH-16 underpass in Kaja Venkatareddypalem, Guntur district, on the night of 30 October 2026.[1] The nine were detained after some of them tried to run when they saw the police.[2]
Officers found the ganja in a blue college bag and in the dashboard of the car the group was using.[1] They seized about 3.1 kg of ganja and a Hyundai Exter used to transport it.[1] Police also took a weighing machine and packing material and valued the ganja at about ₹62,000.[3] Eight of the nine arrested were customers who had come to buy from the main accused, Chadala Nandamayya.[1]
Investigators said Nandamayya, a painter, had bought four kilograms of ganja a week earlier from Venigalla Padma of Vijayawada at ₹17,000 a kilogram, paying ₹68,000.[1] He sold about a kilogram near Piduguralla to a man named Akash.[1] He kept some and packed another kilogram into 50-gram sachets sold at ₹1,000 each.[1] Padma and Akash are at large and police said they were searching for them.[3]
District superintendent of police Vakul Jindal announced the case at a press conference in Guntur on 31 October.[1] Six of the nine arrested had criminal records and three were rowdy-sheeters, police said.[3] The sales targeted young people in Mangalagiri, Vijayawada and Kaja.[2] Jindal asked residents to report drug activity and said informants’ details would be kept confidential.[1]
