On the evening of 4 May 2026, criminal police entered a house in the Murska Sobota administrative unit on a court order and caught seven people packing cannabis.[1] They held all seven.[1] Searches continued the next day.[1] Before they went in, firefighters removed 15 gas cylinders and an electrician checked the wiring.[1]
The searches ran in the Murska Sobota police area and in Ljubljana.[1] In Ljubljana, before a house search, officers stopped another suspect leaving a house with two pistols, 81 rounds, suspected cannabis, several phones and about 9,000 euros in cash.[1] In all they seized more than 86 kg of cannabis, two pistols, ammunition, phones, growing and packing equipment, and more than 10,000 euros.[1] The equipment included ventilation, heaters, humidifiers, scales and vacuum packers.[1]
Investigators filed a criminal complaint against eight people, aged 17 to 61, all from the Ljubljana administrative unit.[1] Four were brought before an investigating judge, who remanded two in custody and ordered two to stay at home.[1] Bojan Rous, of the Murska Sobota criminal police, called it one of the largest seizures of cannabis from a converted indoor grow in Slovenia.[1] He estimated the suspects could have made about 450,000 euros wholesale and about 1 million euros on the street.[1]
The inquiry had run since the start of March, at first against four suspects aged 29 to 33.[1] Rous said one of them had bought an older house in the Murska Sobota area in 2023 and sold it to another suspect so it could be turned into a grow.[1] N1, citing the same press conference through the STA news agency, reported the same seizure and the same eight suspects.[2]
