Gonda’s special court convicted Rajkumar Godiya in a ganja-recovery case from nearly five years ago.[1] Special Judge Surya Prakash Singh sentenced him to five years of rigorous imprisonment.[1] The court also imposed a fine of 5,000 rupees, with one additional month of imprisonment if the fine is not paid.[1] Failure to pay the fine will require him to serve one additional month of ordinary imprisonment.[1]
On the night of 8 August 2021, Sub-Inspector Lal Bihari of Paraspur police station was on night patrol with a police team.[1] Near Reksadia crossing, the team saw a man carrying a bag in suspicious circumstances, and caught him after he tried to flee on seeing the police.[1] On questioning, he was identified as Rajkumar Godiya, son of Ramdeen, resident of Dhanawa village under Paraspur police station.[1] A search of the bag in his possession recovered 4 kg 600 g of ganja, the local term for cannabis.[1]
Police registered a case under the NDPS Act, investigated it and submitted a charge sheet to the court.[1] During the hearing, the prosecution presented witness statements and evidence relating to the recovery.[1] Hearing the case, the additional district and sessions judge found accused Rajkumar Godiya guilty and punished him with five years of rigorous imprisonment and a 5,000-rupee fine.[1]
