Durg police said strong investigation and solid evidence had led courts to sentence the accused in 25 NDPS cases in the district so far in 2026.[1] Those cases had been registered in the Mohan Nagar, Supela, Kumhari, Nevai, Patan, Utai, Durg, Amleshwar, Chhawani and Nandini Nagar station areas, and courts found the accused guilty after trial.[1] Superintendent of Police Vijay Agrawal said action against the illegal drug trade in the district was continuing.[1]

Police said the 25 convictions included several ganja-trafficking cases.[1] In some of those cases the accused were found with from 1 kg to more than 5 kg of ganja.[1] In different cases courts imposed imprisonment and fines, with some accused given 10 to 15 years of rigorous imprisonment and fines of up to Rs 100,000.[1] Police said seizure actions during investigation, witness statements and documentary evidence were placed strongly before the courts, producing convictions in the 25 cases.[1]

Besides ganja, the 25 cases covered illegal sale and transport of restricted narcotic medicines and prohibited intoxicants.[1] Agrawal said the aim was not only to arrest accused but to have courts punish them.[1] Police said emphasis was being placed on investigation quality, solid evidence and effective prosecution in court.[1] He said no one involved in the drug trade would be spared and strict action would continue to protect young people and build a drug-free society.[1]
