On Wednesday evening, 7 October 2026, emergency crews were called to a smouldering fire in a shed behind a house on Hornszee in Genk.[1] Police zone Carma found a cannabis plantation of about 250 plants, spread over several rooms.[1]

On the Limburg prosecutor’s orders, officers arrested two Genk residents, a 64-year-old woman and a 74-year-old man.[1] A search of their home found several firearms, which were seized.[1] The plantation was dismantled and the plants destroyed.[1] Grid operator Fluvius found signs of electricity theft and a separate report was drawn up.[1]

The prosecutor brought the man before an investigating judge on suspicion of cultivating drugs.[1] The judge ordered him held and taken to prison.[1] The woman was released after questioning.[1] The inquiry continues under the investigating judge in Tongeren.[1]

VRT NWS reported the same remand: the man in his seventies was sent to prison, the 64-year-old woman was released, firearms were found in the searches, the plants were destroyed, and Fluvius recorded signs of electricity theft.[2]
