Acting on intelligence developed by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) that cannabis
(ganja) was being cultivated over a large area inside a wildlife sanctuary near Jamniapani village
in Shirpur, Dhule district, a joint team of DRI and Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN) officers
went into the sanctuary on 14 October 2026.[1][2]
The team traced illicit cannabis across five stretches of land in a remote and densely forested
part of the sanctuary, covering 2.87 hectares (7.08 acres) in total.[1][2] The operation was
hampered by inaccessible terrain, wild animals and a lack of mobile network coverage, and officers
worked under safety precautions to complete it.[1]
After completing the required legal formalities, the crop was destroyed with a rotavator in the
presence of Police and Forest Department officials.[1][2] The reports name no arrests, and
further investigation is in progress.[1][2]
