Halifax Regional Police charged three people with possession for the purpose of trafficking after a search in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.[1] Officers executed the search warrant at a home on Elmwood Avenue on 4 September 2026, after receiving information in late August about suspected drug activity there.[1] During the search they seized a large quantity of drugs and sent them to Health Canada for testing.[1] A Glock switch, a device used to turn a semi-automatic pistol into a fully automatic pistol, was also seized.[2] Health Canada confirmed that the seizure included 6.2 kilograms of fentanyl, 1,400 pills of fentanyl, 10.5 litres of GHB and 96 packages of cannabis gummies.[1] GHB is also known as a date-rape drug.[3] Police said they believed the drugs were being held for trafficking and had not been sold or consumed.[1]

John Waye, 73, Krista Waye, 43, and Jaime Beaton, 43, were charged.[3] Each also faces a charge of possession of cannabis for the purpose of selling.[1] Police displayed the seized drugs for media.[4]

Staff Sergeant Nick Pepler said it was the largest quantity of fentanyl and GHB ever seized by Halifax Regional Police, and that police believed it was the largest such seizure in Atlantic Canada.[1] Police put the bulk street value of the fentanyl at about C$500,000 and of the GHB at about C$5,000.[4] Investigators said they did not believe the three were acting alone and that the drugs were brought to the region through organized crime, with others involved.[1] The investigation is ongoing.[1]
