At 11:20 on 28 April 2026 officers from the Sayibuyi subdistrict police
station in Yining, Xinjiang, began uprooting wild cannabis that had been found
around a high-voltage substation outside a residential compound.[1] During
earlier checks the station had noticed a large cannabis stand; questioning and
visits led officers to conclude it was wild growth rather than deliberate
cultivation.[1]
The station mobilised officers to remove the plants and search nearby ground
under a “not one plant left” standard.[1] It said it destroyed 485 cannabis
plants and removed a source of drugs that could have been exploited by
traffickers.[1] Officer Ma Yunfei briefed residents on the spot about drug
plants and the legal ban on cultivating them.[1]
