Two Chimanimani villagers were arrested after police discovered 770 dagga plants growing alongside maize crops in their fields in Ruwaka Village under Chief Mutambara.[1][2]

Lovemore Zambasira (73) and Liberty Maunganidze (38) were arrested on Monday 26 October 2026 following a tip-off received a day earlier; national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrests.[1][2] Officers travelled about 30 km to the village, arriving at the homesteads at about 4:30am; the two led officers to their fields, where 690 plants were found in Zambasira’s field and 80 in Maunganidze’s.[1]

A search at Zambasira’s homestead also uncovered 800 grams of unprocessed dagga in a plastic bag in his bedroom; the plants were uprooted and the case went to the CID Drugs section in Mutare.[1] The two are accused of unlawful possession, growing or use of dangerous drugs under Section 157(1)(c) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.[1][2]
