Evanston police said Ernest W. Pentek, 48, of Chicago was charged with 14 felonies, including one count of possession of cannabis with intent to deliver and one count of possession of cannabis.[1] The department’s Special Operations Group had investigated information that Pentek was allegedly distributing narcotics in the Evanston and Chicago areas.[1] Investigators had also received information indicating that Pentek possessed multiple guns and potentially dangerous incendiary devices.[1] Officers obtained evidence and a search warrant for Pentek’s home in the 6900 block of North Ashland Avenue in the Rogers Park neighborhood.[1] Pentek was arrested without incident about 2:05 p.m. on Oct. 30 when officers executed the search warrant at that residence.[2]
During the search of Pentek’s home, officers recovered approximately 2.6 pounds of suspected cannabis.[1] In the same search, officers recovered four firearms, an airsoft rifle, more than 500 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 7.1 grams of suspected heroin, 11 grams of suspected Xanax, 4 grams of suspected crack cocaine and 39 suspected MDMA pills.[1] Officers also recovered a substance believed to be Gamma-Hydroxybutyrate, $1,185 in U.S. currency, ballistic protective equipment and several suspected homemade incendiary devices.[1]
The Special Operations Group executed the warrant with the Evanston Police Department’s Special Response Team and the Cook County Sheriff’s Police Bomb Squad.[1] The Chicago Police Department also assisted in the operation.[2] Pentek was charged after police reviewed the case with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office.[2] He was scheduled for an initial court appearance Saturday at the George N. Leighton Criminal Court Building, 2600 S. California Ave. in Chicago.[2]
