A 48-year-old Indian passenger who arrived with wheelchair assistance was arrested by the Air Intelligence Unit of Chennai Customs.[1] He landed at Chennai airport in the early hours of Sunday 30 August 2026 on an AirAsia flight.[2] The flight had come from Bangkok via Kuala Lumpur.[3] He cleared immigration, collected his baggage and tried to leave through the green channel without declaring any goods.[2] Officers stopped him.[2] A search of his bags found six transparent airtight packets of hydroponic ganja weighing 2,960 grams.[1] Customs valued the cannabis at Rs 3 crore (30 million rupees) and seized the contraband.[1]

He was taken to the Customs office for a detailed examination.[2] Officers found he had no medical condition requiring a wheelchair and suspected he was using it as a ruse to avoid scrutiny.[2] During interrogation, officials learned he was acting as a mule for an international drug trafficking network and had booked wheelchair assistance with fake medical documents.[2] Officers were investigating whom the consignment was meant for and whether more people were involved.[2]
