Police in Champawat district registered 65 cases under the NDPS Act, India’s main narcotics law, against 88 accused in the ten months to 27 October 2026.[1][2] The figures were reviewed at a district-level NCORD committee meeting chaired by District Magistrate Manish Kumar, held under the Drug Free Devbhoomi resolution’s de-addiction campaign.[3] Three accused were detained under the PIT-NDPS Act, India’s preventive-detention law for drug trafficking.[3]

Officers recovered 11.863 kg of charas, a cannabis resin, over the same ten months.[1][2] The haul, recovered from the 88 accused, also included 1.190 kg of smack, or heroin.[3] Officers seized 445 narcotic injections, 6,254 capsules and tablets and 10 bottles of syrup.[3] Police also destroyed bhang, cannabis plants, on 495 nali of land, a local measure.[3]

District Magistrate Manish Kumar also directed departments to coordinate awareness work and enforcement, increase monitoring and checks in sensitive areas, jointly inspect medical stores and keep taking firm preventive action against repeat offenders.[3]
