Police arrested and charged three people after seizing 49 pounds of suspected cannabis during a highway checkpoint operation on Monday night, 20 October.[1]
Mobile Interdiction Unit and Highway Interdiction Team officers manning the checkpoint signalled a silver Ford Escape to stop; told of the intended search, the SUV sped off, and officers pursued and intercepted it while two men fled.[1] A search found several parcels of suspected cannabis.[1] Whitney Doris Alford, 21, of Unitedville and Lisa Marie Gonzalez, 31, of Santa Elena were detained at the scene; Francisco Ernesto Landaverde, 23, of San Ignacio later turned himself in.[1] All three were charged with possession of controlled drugs with intent to supply.[1]
