Jaime Alanís García, a Mexican farmworker supporting a wife and daughter in Mexico, died on Saturday, 12 July 2025 at Ventura County Medical Center, two days after falling about 30 feet (some 9 metres) from a building at the Glass House Farms cannabis farm near Camarillo during a federal immigration raid there on Thursday, 10 July. His family said he had been taken to hospital with a broken neck and skull.[1]

The raid was one of two simultaneous operations at cannabis farms near Camarillo and in Carpinteria; homeland security secretary Kristi Noem announced 319 arrests across them.[1] The Department of Homeland Security said García “was not in and has not been in CBP or ICE custody” and, though “not being pursued by law enforcement”, had climbed to the roof of a greenhouse and fallen, with a medevac called immediately.[1] The United Farm Workers confirmed workers were critically injured — injuries not believed life-threatening — and said other workers, including US citizens, remained unaccounted for; the family said workers “were met not with protection, but with chaos and fear”.[1]

On 7 August 2025 the family’s attorneys filed a federal claim alleging ICE agents carried out an illegal search and seizure and used excessive force, seeking damages for García’s pre-death suffering and for his family’s loss; they may sue in federal court if ICE denies or ignores the claim within six months.[2] President Claudia Sheinbaum said Mexico was considering a legal complaint over the death.[2]
