Military highway police stopped a truck at Assis, in São Paulo state, on the afternoon of 21 October 2026 and found 1,402.1 kg of cannabis in 44 cardboard boxes hidden among a load of nappies.[1][2] The driver, a 43-year-old man, was arrested for drug trafficking.[1]

The stop was made by the Tático Ostensivo Rodoviário of the 2nd Highway Police Battalion with the FICCO, an integrated anti-organised-crime task force, during Operation Impacto.[1] The driver appeared nervous and gave contradictory answers about the route, prompting officers to search the trailer.[1][2]

He told police that an unknown person had taken the truck in Rolândia, in Paraná, to be loaded with the drug, and that its likely destination was Miracema, in Rio de Janeiro state.[1] He was taken to the federal police station in Marília and remained in custody there.[1][3] The highway police estimated that the seizure cost the traffickers R$2.8 million.[1]

In a statement on the wider operation, the federal police put the Assis load at 1,412.1 kg and said two other men were arrested with 726.15 kg in São Paulo city the same day, bringing the operation’s total to 2,138.25 kg.[3]
