Gendarmes stopped a cannabis transfer on the seafront at Bras-Panon, Réunion, on Sunday 26 July 2026.[1] Witnesses alerted officers after seeing two men moving suitcases towards a boat on the shore.[2] The transfer was taking place near the Rivière du Mât on the Bras-Panon seafront.[1] The gendarmes searched the area after the alert.[2] Officers found 10 sacks that had been carefully hidden.[2] They held 156 kg of cannabis herb in total.[1] Officers arrested the two suspects and placed them in custody.[1] The gendarmerie said the cargo was meant to leave by sea.[2]

After custody, investigators established that the cannabis was to be transferred to Mauritius.[1] Both men were brought before the public prosecutor.[2] A judicial investigation was opened to trace the network and identify its branches.[2] The gendarmerie said it had deployed a large operation involving multiple units.[2] It thanked the witnesses, whose alert it called decisive.[1] It said the case showed how a simple report can take large quantities of drugs off the market.[2]
