Gautam Nagar police in Bhopal arrested three men accused of trafficking ganja, a name for cannabis in India.[1] The men were identified as 55-year-old Manoj Sankat, Shiva alias Shivanshu Sankat and Shivam Maheshkar.[1] Police said the men brought ganja to Bhopal via Raipur and sold it in the city in pudiyas, small paper packets, for profit.[1]

In the first action, officers caught Manoj Sankat selling pudiyas outside his house in Nagar Nigam Colony in Nariyalkheda.[1] Police said a search of his room found 1 kg 800 g of ganja and four pudiyas.[1] In the second action, officers stopped two young men carrying ganja on a scooter near the New Arif Nagar bus stand.[1] The two men were identified as Shiva alias Shivanshu Sankat and Shivam Maheshkar.[1] Police said a search of the two men found 1 kg 903 g of ganja, the scooter and Rs 41,000 in cash.[1] Together the detailed recoveries total about 3.7 kg, described by police as about 4 kg, alongside one scooter and Rs 41,000 in cash.[1]

Police said questioning indicated the accused brought ganja along the Raipur route and sold it at different places in Bhopal.[1] Police registered two separate cases against the three men under Sections 8/20 and 29 of the NDPS Act, India’s narcotics law, and produced them before a court.[1] Police said they are now tracing other people in the network and the supply chain.[1]
