Dehat police in Ashoknagar district, Madhya Pradesh, found 28 cannabis plants, known in Hindi as ganja, in the courtyard of a house in Haider village and beside two rooms under construction.[1] They arrested Devi Singh Yadav, 60, a resident of the village.[1] Officers uprooted all the plants with their roots and seized them.[1] The seized plants weighed 9 kg 50 g in total, police said.[2]

Police said a tip-off on Friday reported that Yadav was growing cannabis in his courtyard.[1] Officers informed senior officers and formed a team after the tip-off.[1] They searched the courtyard and the two unfinished rooms, where the 28 green plants were found.[1] A case was registered against him at the Dehat police station late that night under the NDPS Act, India’s main drug law.[1] He was produced before a court.[1]

The operation was carried out under district police chief Rajeev Kumar Mishra, with additional superintendent Antar Singh Kanesh and sub-divisional police officer Om Prakash Mishra supervising.[1] Mishra said the campaign against the production, storage and sale of illegal drugs would continue across the district.[1]
