Fiji destroys 18.2 tonnes of marijuana in Operation Sasamaki
Police reported that nine phases of Operation Sasamaki, launched on 1 March 2025, destroyed 18.2 tonnes of marijuana with an estimated street value of FJ$241 million and arrested 1,239 people, mostly for possession and cultivation. The same operation seized 11.1 kg of methamphetamine and cocaine worth nearly FJ$7 million.
Fiji’s appeal court cuts two cannabis growers’ prison terms by four years
Waisake Kaloulia’s nineteen-year cannabis cultivation sentence was reduced to fifteen years, and Kaminieli Naqeleca’s eighteen years to fourteen. The Court of Appeal applied its newer plant-count and role guidelines to the men’s older case, involving a remote plantation with at least 208 whole plants confirmed in the analyst’s report.
