A traveler entering Zhuhai was stopped at the Jiuzhou Port passenger terminal on the evening of 24 October 2026 after customs officers noticed that he looked nervous at the inspection channel.[1][2][3][4][5] He had come in through the customs green channel, the lane reserved for travelers with nothing to declare, and officers pulled him aside to check the luggage and items he was carrying.[6][2][7] In his trouser pocket they then found five cigarettes sealed inside a plastic bag and giving off a strong, pungent smell, and took them for suspected cannabis cigarettes.[6][2][7]

The cigarettes were sent for identification, which found cannabis in all five.[6][2][7] Their combined net weight was 1.87 g, customs said.[1][6][2][3][5] Jiuzhou Customs, a branch of Gongbei Customs, made the seizure in the port’s inbound passenger inspection channel.[6][2][7] The case was handed to the anti-smuggling department for further handling.[1][2][3][5]

Customs used the case to remind travelers that under Chinese law smuggling, selling, transporting or manufacturing drugs is a criminal offence, whatever the quantity.[6][2][7]
