The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service destroyed more than 8.3 tonnes of illegal narcotics at the Caroni Cremation Site on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, with an estimated street value of $1.6 billion.[1][2]

The destroyed stockpile, seized in operations by the Southern, Eastern and North Eastern Divisions and the Special Investigations Unit, some dating back to 2005, comprised 3.08 tonnes of cocaine worth about $1.431 billion, 5.22 tonnes of marijuana worth about $156 million, and 4.87 kilograms of ecstasy and heroin worth about $13 million.[1]

Commissioner of Police Allister Guevarro called it a landmark day for accountability and transparency, while Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar said the haul equalled roughly one percent of annual GDP seized from the local drug mafia.[1][2]
