Two held with 73 kg of cannabis in Thanamalwila raids
Special Task Force officers from the Kataragama camp raided two premises at Gemunupura, Thanamalwila, on the evening of 14 October 2026 and arrested two Kuda Oya residents, 39 and 56, with 37.86 kg and 35.21 kg of dried cannabis. Both were handed to Thanamalwila police.

Acting on information, Police Special Task Force officers from the Kataragama
camp carried out two raids in the Gemunupura area of Thanamalwila on the evening of
Wednesday 14 October.[1][2] They arrested one suspect with 37 kg and 860 grams of
dried cannabis and a second with 35 kg and 210 grams, 73.07 kg in total.[1][2]
The two men, aged 39 and 56 and both from Kuda Oya, were handed with the
drugs to Thanamalwila Police Station, which is investigating further.[1][2]
