During a roadblock at the Baobab Toll Plaza in the Vhembe District at about 11:00 on Friday 18 September, members of the Beitbridge Port of Entry Task Team stopped a white Toyota Hilux with a canopy travelling toward Beitbridge.[1][2] The two occupants, men aged 32 and 41 who identified themselves as Tanzanian nationals, said they had no keys to the padlock on the canopy.[1][2]

The vehicle was escorted 51 kilometres to the Beitbridge Port of Entry, where BMA and SAPS officers opened the canopy in the suspects’ presence and found 33 bags of suspected dagga weighing about 991.5 kilograms, with an estimated street value of R1.5 million.[1][2] Both men were arrested and were due before the Musina Magistrate’s Court on Monday 21 September on charges of dealing in dagga; a criminal docket was opened at Musina SAPS.[1][2] Limpopo Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers praised the team’s vigilance.[2]
