On 24 September 2026, more than 391 kg of cannabis was detected in an inbound container at Singapore’s Pasir Panjang Scanning Station; the joint ICA-CNB statement followed on 2 October.[1][2] Targeting work by the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority flagged the container for enhanced checks, and image analysts spotted anomalies in its scan.[1][2] When officers opened it, they found suspected cannabis blocks concealed in boxes of gloves, 1,290 blocks weighing about 391 kg in total.[1][2]

Preliminary investigations found the drugs were transiting through Singapore to another country, which the agencies did not name, and that the container’s origin was likewise undisclosed.[1][2] Investigations are ongoing.[1][2] The agencies note that importing or exporting more than 500 grams of cannabis carries a mandatory death sentence under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1973, a threshold this load exceeded almost eight hundred times over.[1][2]
