On 1 October 2018 Si Sawat district chief Narit Songnipitkun said he had been told that cannabis was being grown illegally on Khao Bo Luk Rang, a hill at Ban Tha Sanun in Dan Mae Chalaep subdistrict, Kanchanaburi province.[1] He led senior district official Chakat Asana, a Volunteer Defence Corps company, soldiers, Dan Mae Chalaep police and village headmen to the hilltop.[1] The party went on foot through bamboo forest up the steep slope.[1]
At the top they found a temporary hut roofed with plastic, holding smoking equipment, a cannabis pipe, cannabis seed and some dried cannabis.[1] No one was in the area, and officials believed the growers had fled before they arrived.[1] Behind the hut, 140 cannabis plants 2 to 3 metres tall were growing through the surrounding forest.[1]
Officers cut down all 140 plants, carried them down the hill and handed them to investigators at Dan Mae Chalaep police station.[1] The police were to investigate to find the growers and take legal action.[1]
