On Monday 28 September 2026, the Paphos criminal court jailed a 56-year-old man for 17 years for possessing a controlled drug with intent to supply it to others.[1][2] Police told the Cyprus Mail the case was possession of cannabis with intent to supply.[1]

Ykan, the drug squad, arrested him in February 2025 after he was seen digging in a field and taking out a package.[1] Officers found 1 kg of cannabis on him.[1] A later search of the area found another 29 packages of green, dried cannabis that had been buried.[1] The cannabis weighed about 37 kg and 451 g.[1]

To Thema reported the same sentence and the same weight, seized in the Paphos area.[2] It said part of the quantity was in a package the man had with him, and that the other packages were in a tank buried in the ground.[2]
