Government Railway Police arrested three young men at Nagpur railway station during a Tuesday afternoon patrol.[1] The three were identified as 22-year-old Rajkumar Bramha Giri, 20-year-old Bultakumar Rama and 19-year-old Arbaz Ansari Sarfuddin Ansari, all residents of Singpatti Jungle in Kushinagar district, Uttar Pradesh.[1] Officers spotted the three suspicious youths at around 2 pm on the platform by the station manager’s office.[1]

The youths were carrying three trolley bags and two rucksacks and could give no satisfactory answer about their contents.[1] A search of the bags found 32 heavy bundles bound in khaki-coloured tape giving off a strong smell of ganja, which the detained men confirmed was ganja.[1] Officers recovered a total of 36.375 kg of ganja from the five bags, which police valued at Rs 18,17,750.[1] Including three mobile phones taken from the accused, the total seizure was valued at Rs 18,52,750.[1]

Police recorded the seizure under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and described it as the station’s largest action against ganja smuggling in nearly two years.[1] The GRP said it was still investigating where the ganja had been brought from and to whom it was to be supplied.[1]
