A 44-year-old German national living in Mallorca was arrested on 21 October 2026 over a shipment of more than three tonnes of marijuana intercepted the previous March at the port of Valencia after arriving from Canada.[1] He is also linked to a separate 80 kg seizure in Germany, and investigators have charged a second island resident in the same case.[1]
The man appeared before a judge in Inca the next day, charged with drug trafficking and membership of a criminal organisation.[1] He was released without bail even though the prosecutor asked for him to be remanded in custody; he may not leave the island and must report to the court on the 1st and 15th of every month.[1]
The case goes back to 7 March, when the Valencia risk-analysis unit flagged a container in transit carrying lawful goods.[2] Customs officers with the National Police and the Civil Guard found 3,289 kilograms of cannabis and six kilograms of Canadian hashish, worth over six million euros and the largest Canada-origin haul seized in Spain, confirming a new trafficking route into the European Union.[1][2] The shipment was disguised as commercial goods bound for a warehouse in Malaga.[1]
