On Thursday 15 October 2026 police arrested a 34-year-old foreign man in Larisa on an arrest warrant.[1][2] Officers of the Drugs Subdivision of the Directorate for Combating Organised Crime had found a cannabis plantation in a hard-to-reach wooded area of Larisa.[1] The investigation concluded that he supplied the plantation with what it needed.[1][2] A second person, identified but not described as arrested, is in the file and is accused of cultivating the plants and guarding the site.[1][2]

The location was fixed from information, with help from the Information and Special Actions Subdivision, EKAM, the Larisa crimes subdivision, and the Tyrnavos police station.[1][2] At the plantation, officers found, uprooted and seized 812 cannabis plants, from 1.40 to 2.10 metres tall.[1][2] In a shack set up for drying cannabis they found seven bags of raw cannabis with a gross weight of 36 kilograms and 690 grams.[1][2] The TA NEA headline rounds that weight to 37 kilograms.[1]

Searches of the 34-year-old’s homes and of the plantation also found cultivation equipment, things the people living at the plantation used, a pair of binoculars, an intercom and 40,950 euros.[1][2] The authorities’ estimate of the expected benefit, from the seized raw cannabis, the uprooted plants and the cash taken as proceeds, is more than 800,000 euros.[1][2] The arrested man, who had been charged repeatedly in the past with immigration offences, was taken to the prosecutor and referred to an investigating judge.[1][2]

Protothema published eight photographs of the slope, the drying shelter and a camp under the trees, and a Hellenic Police video of the shelter.[2]
