After receiving information that cannabis was being grown in the remote Gawan-block villages of Odpodo and Rajokhar in Giridih district, police carried out an eradication action there.[1] Odpodo and Rajokhar are remote villages within Gawan block, placing the operation in a hard-to-reach part of Giridih district in Jharkhand.[1] The police team that went to both villages was led by Gawan station in-charge Jaiprakash Kumar.[1]

Police said the information was that cannabis cultivation was being carried out secretly in remote parts of the block.[1] In the fields, officers destroyed the standing cannabis plants, ending the growing crop rather than seizing harvested stocks.[1]

Kumar said the campaign against illegal cultivation of narcotic substances and their trade in the area would continue.[1] He said people involved in such activity would be identified and then face action in accordance with the law.[1] Ganja is the Hindi term used in this account for cannabis, so the destroyed crop was cannabis plants under cultivation.[1]
